I’ve often read about the importance of giving gratitude to balance your psyche and give perspective.
So today, I’m expressing gratitude for friends who have it together and know how to organize.
Cabinet maker Tom comes today. The kitchen reno starts tonight. Everything must go.
I’ve been dunging the place out all week and passersby have regularly been emptying the box of free stuff out by the curb. A carpet cleaner has gone. A foot bath, five vases, magazines, a tea pot . . . all gone. I wish somebody would take that damn knife block.
Here’s the thing. I have endearing qualities. I bake baguettes most weeks, make a mean mojito and I’m fun at a party. But I suck at organizing. Sure, I can rapid-fire empty a cupboard, but then what?
Enter Lynelle yesterday. Equipped with Rubbermaid containers and garbage bags she went to work.
You don’t need mugs for a family of eight, she said. Which ones do you want to keep?
And so on.
She improvised a workable kitchen on the back porch then went home to cook dinner for us since both the fridge and stove had left the premises.
Here’s what her two hours of work look like.
And my efforts:
You can see the problem.
Tom will be here in a matter of hours. The new appliances, including a – wait for it – dishwasher, arrive Monday.
Clearly, I have work to do.
Watch this space, friends.
Oh Gery, the freedom from all the “stuff” will be marvellous. Now, what is the plan (mantra) for you and Graham to manage “stuff” going forward? 😁😁😁

Hi Gery –
Sympathize totally.
I pride myself on being organized but apparently I have my limits.
My office area is a mess since changing computers and computer desk, etc. I seem to be too busy to get the rest of it together as it means “sifting and sorting a bunch of paper – some mine and some stuff that Walt and I share. It is definitely slow-going….
Kitchen is not bad but still stocked for family of 4 and any number of guests – and currently we are three. My excuse is with having a dishwasher we need lots of dishes to use when some are dirty and when we have grandkids (3) over also other rellies, and friends.
Good luck with your kitchen reno! Been there and done that! I have added stuff over the years tho……
